Updated: Oct 30, 2023

As the world continues to social distance and stay home during the holiday season, another challenge has arisen during the coronavirus pandemic: shipping delays.

In the third quarter, e-commerce jumped 37% compared to last year as consumers spent almost $200 billion online from July to September — and as the most wonderful time of the year begins, business owners are running into issues with shipping.

Sally Herships joins the show to explain how ultimately, these package shortages are an issue of supply and demand.

A shorter version of this piece also aired on All Things Considered on December 11, 2020
